    Why "jsus"? Empty Why "jsus"?

So something I've wondered about is how you guys choose to handle the name, Gee Ee Ss Uh Ss.

You all have been omitting the vowel, like in "G-d" to spell His name as "jsus." This would suggest (at least to an goy like me) you are treating Him with at least some of the same respect/rules as G-d.

Just as consistently, you also always use the lower case "j", which would confer disrespect.

It seems like you guys are just hedging your bets.

What am I missing? Inquiring goy minds want to know!

No. we don't type out the names of other gods in keeping with the commandment not to even mention the names of other gods in His presence. Same with if we would type the word "bddah" we dont use the "u" Since many people equate jsus with a god or raise him to the level of a deity, that is why many Jews do this.
The reason for using the slash when typing out "G-d" so if it would get erased we are not erasing the name of G-d" even though many would say that "G-d" is not literally the divine name. In that case it is done this way out of respect. I believe this subject came up before.

OK, but then why lower case? If you capitalize Moses, or Enoch, or Obama...

So would you capitalize Jsus's mother's name, Mary?

We capitalize people's names all the times, that doesn't explain the persistent lower case treatment of Jsus.

    What about Muhammed?

Muhammad was considered a prophet, ( by Muslims) not a god. its really force of habit more than anything. It's not meant as deliberate disrespect.

Right, I follow. Though I don't think Bddah is considered a god either.

In any event, I'm just trying to figure out where the habit comes from. I was taught in my grammar classes that all proper pronouns (names) are capitalized.

I may not attribute god status to, say, Cthlu, but I know that some people actually take it quite seriously (if you can believe that). I still capitalize it though, because it is a proper noun.

Where am I going wrong? cheers

You're not going wrong anywhere. like I said, some people do it and some don't. i don't think someone typing out that name is going to be condemned to death, for some of us, it is just a way to mentally differentiate between what we consider to be the one true G-d and what or who is not.

The capitalization? Or the hyphen as compared to vowel redaction?

Being a gentile it it offensive for me to type God or Jesus? I have been wondering what the protocol was with that myself.

It'snot offensive. Some Jewish scriptures type out the name "God" others Adonai artscroll usually uses "HaShem" ( the name) some of us just choose to use Spell it G-d out of respect. Just a personal thing. Same with jsus, if you type it out fully, it doesn't bother me.

Cool. I would hate to think I had been offensive this whole time. For some clarification why the hyphen for God and the missing e for Jesus? Also neo is correct Buddha is not a God and to my knowledge never claimed to be.

And I know you can not type it but is there somewhere I can find the Hebrew word for God phonetically in English? Wait that leads me to another question. If it is not proper to write God, how is God referred to in the Hebrew Bible?
