    Isaiah 58;13

A question concerning the Sabbath here. Hashem through the Prophet says "....And you honor it by not engaging in your own affairs, from seeking your own needs or Discussing the forbidden...."

What exactly does he mean by discussing the forbidden?

Hmmm... good question. Because Shabbos is so holy, maybe it means we shouldn't discuss avodah zarah. I'll have to ask my Rav.

From what i have gathered, it seems we are not to discuss business or work or other things that we otherwise are not allowed to do on Shabbat, not only should we not do them, we shouldn't discuss them

It means we should not discuss the mundane. Daily things that we would discuss during the week should be off limits on Shabbos. On Shabbos we discuss Torah....

    OK,
The Talmud (Avodah Zarah 7a) holds we cannot say to a friend whom he wishes to hire to work for him, "shall we see whether you will join me in the evening( i.e. after the sabbath)?

It is forbidden to hire workers on the Sabbath ( even for work to be done after the Sabbath(Shalchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 307:2) due to the injunction stated in Isaiah 58:13 from "seeking your own interests" i.e. pursuing your business affairs ( Rashi to Shabbos 150a)

We don't really need the Talmud to teach us about the 39 Melachos of Shabbos. We know from the melachos that we don't hire people on Shabbos, or discuss plans for after Shabbos.

We can discuss the 39 Melachos, there are a few great books.

Gotcha, I was simply pointing out that I found in the Talmud the answer to my original question. Basketball
