Being Yaakov in a world of Eisav

Post  Yehudah on Tue Jan 05, 2016 8:42 pm

I think we can all agree that today's world is a modern Sodom. Anything goes as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, and if it does, the media will probably condone it.

Even our "leaders" are treacherous, not going into any details here, you know who and what I'm talking about.

So we live in the world of Eisav; Eisav was a womanizer, murderer, thief, etc... on and on. How hard is it for us, many generations south of harsinai to live in today's world and remain true to our Torah beliefs?

Plenty hard. But we only need to look at our Torah for G-ds' examples and answers on what to do to combat this terrible place. The Torah writes, vyechi Yaakov b'eretz mitzraim - and we talked about that in my last post. Later It writes, Haya Yosef b'eretz mitzraim. But we knew that already. Yosef had lived there for years by now as the co-ruler of the land. So why does the Torah (who does not provide superfluous words) tell us yet again that Yosef lived there?

The answer is sweet and very simple; he LIVED... he didn't allow the land of the most treacherous people alive at the time change him one bit - just as his father Yaakov reclaimed his role and status as Yisroel, Yosef kept his status as a complete Tzaddik.

There is G-ds' example, now here is the answer: Study Torah, don't be fooled by the yetzer harah, daven with much kevanah, and actualize the emunah and bitocon you have in your heart for the Great Creator and Supervisor of the World.

When we read the story of the exodus, commenters say we had slipped to the next to last level of impurity.
G-d had to redeem us before all was lost. During the time of mass assimilation in Greece, the Maccabees needed to step up. makes me wonder if with all that is going on now, that a major redemption plan is about to happen, it would seem only G-d Himself can undo what has been done.
