Should it be banned? Do you feel a person should go to jail for burning an American flag within the US? Or do you feel doing so would violate free speech?

Re: Flag burning
In parallel: What does the government of Israel do when some shmuck burns the Mogen Dovid?
I used to be super patriotic... I would have flogged someone I had witnessed doing this.
In retrospect, why?
If we hold our constitution as THE law of the land.. then anyone has the right to do this. Is it cool? No. But are they protected? Yes.
Once you start instituting laws taking away rights, no matter what they are, it opens the door to take away other rights. It's just what libtard America wants.
I vote no.... we shouldn't ban it. C"Vs they ban that, and then ban something else like legally owning handguns.
Nope. Burn the damn thing, who cares (read=big picture).

Re: Flag burning
I have to somewhat agree with you..However what if it is done during a fallen soldiers funeral by some leftist nut group? Could it then be that they are guilty of incitement. Kind of like blazing up a cross in view of a black church. It may be freedom of speech, but you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre

Re: Flag burning
Now I agree with that.
If you are doing it in protest of something, in a lawful place, in a lawful manner - who cares.
If, however, you do it in a manner that is inciteful = JAIL TIME.

Re: Flag burning
Freedom does not equate to anarchy. I agree with you guys, there are boundaries to everything. Acts of freedom should not do harm to others.... however.... who decides what is harmful and is mental harm considered? Does the Harm involved incite to further violence? There will always be a societal Bias as to what is okay and what is not. One wonders if Flying an Israeli flag will one day be banned due to the "mental harm" done to nearby Muslims because we know how easily they are provoked to violence across the world.

Re: Flag burning
Almost everything that can be done at some point, in some way, upsets someone. Can't get around that. But we have to have common sense laws that protect EVERYONE regardless of how tasteless their expression of freedom is.
I hate the groups that picket funerals, it's disgusting. As long as they abide by the law, they should be able to freely picket how they see fit. Do I like it? H*ll no I don't. But I won't infringe on their right to do it.
How would I feel if waving the Magen Dovid were to be banned in this country? Shocked - but from afar, because I'd be able to see it coming, and I'd be shocked from Tel Aviv.

My grandfather used to say, "your rights end at the tip of my nose" people should be able to do what they want, as long as it doesn't effect others ability to do the same.

Re: Flag burning
I'm of the view that if it is your flag that you have bought and paid for with your money, you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want to with it. It might be very distasteful and it might be offensive, but lots of things are distasteful and offensive. I'm not much into the government mandating who or what I have to respect.
