    kosher or non-kosher?

Post  walker on Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:30 pm

Do the current USDA methods of slaughter meet with kosher requirements? I recently read that they may not because of how the animal is slaughtered.

The USDA approved methods alone are not Kosher. The Rabbis have very strict rules on how the animal is killed and how it is prepared and WHO does the slaughtering. They kill humanely, and drain the blood as blood is forbidden for consumption. The Dead animal must not just lay on the ground either, as urine and other waste from the blood can absorb into the meat. Also many parts of the animal are forbidden to be eaten. Generally, only the front part of the Cow can be eaten, no blood and certain nerves such as the sciatic nerve must be removed. Probably lots of other rules on the slaughtering too. I would guess a Kosher Slaughter house is much cleaner as well.

If you eat a truly Kosher certified cut of meat.... you can be assured it is safe and fit for a Jew to eat.

Not to mention that we sell all of the meat we don't deem fit for consumption to the goyim (mostly islam I think - kallal)

I don't completely understand but I thought it had to do with how the animal is stunned before it is slaughtered...
